What to Pack for Florida (Disney & Universal)

Packing for Florida isn’t quite the same as packing for a normal holiday. On the surface, it sounds simple — it’s hot, so you throw in shorts and t-shirts and you’re done. But in reality, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference.

We’ve made the mistake of overpacking, bringing too many clothes and not thinking about what we’d actually need day to day. The truth is you don’t need as much as you think.

Most Disney and Universal hotels have laundry facilities, so it’s far easier to pack lighter and wash while you’re there than carry everything with you.

Where packing really matters is in the things that make your trip easier — especially when you’re dealing with heat, long days, and a lot of walking.

The Items That Make the Biggest Difference

When it comes to packing for Florida, it’s not about bringing more. It’s about bringing the right things. These are the items that genuinely made a difference to our days in the parks.

Cooling Foot Spray (Game Changer)

We use a cooling foot spray from Boots, and it’s made a huge difference on every trip since we discovered it. Spray it on before bed and again in the morning. After a full day of walking in the heat, it genuinely helps your feet recover.

Hydration Tablets (Underrated Essential)

The Florida heat isn’t just hot — it’s humid. Adding a hydration tablet to your water each morning helps replace salts, minerals and electrolytes. It’s a simple habit that makes a noticeable difference on how you feel.

Pillow Spray (Small Comfort, Big Impact)

A simple pillow spray adds a small touch of home comfort. After long days, better sleep makes a big difference to how you feel the next day and for the small price tag, every little detail helps recovery.

Rotate Your Footwear

Take at least two pairs of trainers and rotate them; helps with comfort and freshness. Also, if they your trainers get, they take time to dry in air-conditioned rooms. A backup pair for the next day means no walking in already wet shoes.

When the storms hit, it you have a pair of flip-flops in your park bag, keeps you comfortable and moving. Put your trainers back on when the storms go. This flip-flop tip isn’t essential but it does work.

What You Don’t Need to Pack

One of the biggest mistakes people make is bringing too much — especially clothes. You simply don’t need as much as you think. For two weeks or more, packing for one week is usually enough.

Laundry facilities are easy to use onsite, not expensive, and make packing much simpler. If you’re staying in a DVC resort like Saratoga Springs or parts of Wilderness Lodge, you may even have access to free machines.

A simple approach is to plan a pool or rest day and get your washing done.

Cooling Towels Aren’t Worth It

They sound useful, but in reality they’re more hassle than they’re worth. A small handheld fan is far more practical — and something you’ll actually use throughout the day.

Clothing and Footwear: What Actually Works

Keep Clothing Lightweight and Comfortable. Loose, breathable clothing is key. If you’re planning to go on water rides, do them at the end of the day. Walking around in wet clothes in the heat isn’t as enjoyable as it sounds.

Choose the Right Footwear

You’ll easily walk 15,000–20,000 steps a day.

Make sure your trainers are:

  • comfortable

  • worn in

  • not too heavy

Have a Plan for Rain

Rain is part of the experience in Florida. Ponchos can help, but umbrellas aren’t worth it in busy parks. A better approach is to step into a shop, grab a drink, and wait it out. Storms usually pass quickly.
