Hub by Premier Inn London King’s Cross – Honest Review

The Hub by Premier Inn brand has been around longer than many people realise. Since launching in 2014, Hub properties have been opening across London and Edinburgh, offering a more compact and modern alternative to the traditional Premier Inn model.

But are they better? Or simply different?

And is a smaller, tech-led room worth it for a London stay?

Here’s my honest review of Hub by Premier Inn London King’s Cross.

Check-in kiosk with multiple languages

Check-in - easy and full of connectivity.

Arrival & Check-In

Arriving at the hotel, you’re greeted by a row of self-service check-in consoles.

The concept is minimal staff interaction — check in, activate your own key card and head straight to your room. That said, there is a reception desk just to the left, and staff were available if needed.

The console process was straightforward, taking around four simple steps.

Early check-in and late check-out are available for £10 each (at the time of writing), which feels reasonable for London.

The hotel itself feels modern and vibrant, with toned-down grey and green colours giving it a slightly more refined feel than a standard Premier Inn. Look closely and you’ll spot subtle purple detailing in the corridor carpets — small touches that differentiate the brand.

Location & Food

This Hub is in an excellent location.

It’s around a five-minute walk from King’s Cross station, which connects you via National Rail and six Underground lines. It’s also about five minutes to Granary Square, home to numerous restaurants and bars — including Dishoom, which remains one of our favourites in the area.

If you prefer to stay onsite, there is a restaurant where you can dine in or order food to your room. We chose to eat out during our stay, but drinks were reasonably priced — around £7–£8 for a large glass of wine depending on choice.

Breakfast is £7 per person and includes pastries, toast, tea and coffee, plus the option of a full English (prices at the time of writing).

For London, it’s good value.

The coffee machine was bean-to-cup with options like espresso, latte and cappuccino. Juice and water were available at the bar. The toast was good quality (both white and brown), with jam, butter and Nutella available.

The cooked breakfast was acceptable — not exceptional, but perfectly fine for the price point.

The Room

I stayed in a standard double room - this was a work trip - solo traveller.

It’s compact — as expected with the Hub concept — but perfectly adequate for one person. It can accommodate two adults, though space is tight and nighttime bathroom trips may require careful manoeuvring.

You can upgrade to a slightly larger room where the bed has space on both sides, but this comes at an additional cost.

The bed itself was very comfortable, as were the pillows. One of the standout features is the connectivity panel within easy reach of the bed. From here, you can control:

  • Room temperature

  • Lighting (three different settings)

  • Do Not Disturb

Lighting options include a reading light, dimmed setting or full brightness.

The large TV supports casting. However, during my stay, my room didn’t appear on the casting menu despite neighbouring rooms showing up. Whether this was a glitch or a model difference, I’m not sure — but it’s worth noting.

At the foot of the bed is a pull-out desk and chair. It’s not spacious, but it’s usable for a laptop. Storage is cleverly designed, with a large under-bed drawer and space for a suitcase — essential in a compact room.

The bathroom was clean and well designed. The shower was spacious and powerful, with both rainfall and detachable heads. Water temperature was strong and consistent.

Who It Suits

Hub by Premier Inn London King’s Cross works particularly well for:

  • Solo travellers

  • Short London stays

  • Couples happy with compact space

  • Business trips

  • Anyone prioritising location over room size

If you need space to spread out or are staying longer than a couple of nights, you may prefer a standard Premier Inn.

Final thoughts….

Hub by Premier Inn London King’s Cross delivers exactly what it promises.

A modern, compact, tech-led stay in a genuinely excellent London location.

It’s not luxurious and it’s not spacious — but it is clean, comfortable and good value for central London.

For short stays where you’ll spend most of your time out exploring, it works very well.

I would stay here again.
