Novotel Birmingham Airport Review – Family Stay Before an Early Flight

If you’ve got an early morning flight, staying at the airport the night before can completely change how your trip starts.

Instead of rushing in the dark and worrying about traffic or parking delays, you wake up already there.

On this trip, we stayed at the Novotel Birmingham Airport, located directly opposite the terminal at Birmingham Airport. And when we say opposite — we mean literally across the road.

As a family who travels regularly, we have found that staying at the airport the night before an early flight often makes the whole trip smoother.

Location – It Doesn’t Get More Convenient

The biggest advantage here is simplicity.

  • Around a 2-minute walk to departures

  • No shuttle bus

  • No transfers

  • No loading luggage onto transport at 5am

For families especially, that makes a big difference. You wake up, get ready, and walk straight into the terminal.

It removes a lot of the pressure from travel day.

First Impressions & Check-In

From the outside, the building looks slightly older. Inside, it feels much more modern.

The reception area is clean and contemporary, and check-in was quick and efficient — exactly what you want before an early start.

If you’re not already signed up to ALL – Accor Live Limitless, it’s worth doing before arrival. We registered and received a complimentary drink voucher each, which covered our drinks in the bar.

A small perk — but a nice one.

The Family Room

We booked a family room for the four of us.

Layout & Space

  • Modern décor

  • Smart use of space

  • Enough room for luggage without feeling cramped

Beds

The beds were comfortable, and everything felt clean and well prepared.

A good night’s sleep before a flight makes a noticeable difference — and we had no issues here.

Bathroom Setup (Very Practical for Families)

One feature we really appreciated:

  • Separate toilet

  • Main bathroom with sink and shower

With four people getting ready at the same time, this makes things much easier in the morning.

Noise Levels

Despite being directly opposite the airport, we heard very little noise overnight. For an airport hotel, that’s important.

Views

Some rooms offer views of the airport, which adds to that “holiday starting” feeling — especially if you enjoy watching aircraft movements before your flight.

Views

Airport view and 2 minute walk to terminal.

Food & Restaurant Experience

We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel.

Dinner

  • Decent quality

  • Family-friendly options

  • Good portion sizes

Service was noticeably slow during our visit.

There was also a service charge added to the bill that hadn’t been mentioned beforehand, so it’s worth checking your total before paying.

We’re absolutely not against paying for good service — we’re always happy to recognise and reward it. But we do feel it should be clearly stated upfront if it’s going to be included automatically. For us, service charges work best when they reflect the level of service received, rather than being applied regardless.

The food itself was good — just not exceptional.

Breakfast

Breakfast was buffet-style and much stronger overall.

  • Hot cooked options

  • Pastries

  • Fruit and yoghurt

  • Cereals

Everything was self-service and well stocked. For an airport hotel breakfast, it delivered what you’d expect.

Parking & Morning Departure

Because the hotel is so close to the terminal, your morning is straightforward.

No shuttle timing to worry about.

No extra transfer planning.

If you’re using airport parking, everything is within easy reach. That ease is the main reason to stay here.

Who It Suits

This hotel works well for:

  • Families with early departures

  • Anyone wanting to reduce travel-day stress

  • Travellers prioritising convenience over luxury

  • People flying regularly from Birmingham

It’s not a luxury stay or a destination hotel. It’s practical, comfortable and very well located. Convenience is King here.

Final Thoughts – Would We Stay Again?

Yes.

The location alone makes it hard to beat.

The rooms were clean and modern, the staff were helpful, and we slept well before an early start.

While the evening service was slower than we’d hoped, overall the stay delivered exactly what you want from an airport hotel — convenience, comfort and a smooth start to your trip.

And sometimes, that simplicity is exactly what makes the difference.
