THB Lanzarote Beach Review: Is This Costa Teguise All-Inclusive Worth It for Families?

Booking a last-minute family holiday can sometimes feel like a gamble, especially when the reviews online are mixed. That was exactly the situation before we travelled to what was then Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach, now rebranded as THB Lanzarote Beach in Costa Teguise.

Before arriving, we’d read everything from complaints about tired rooms and buffet food to comments suggesting the hotel felt dated overall. Naturally, that lowered expectations slightly before the trip. But in reality, the experience was far more positive than we expected.

While there were definitely areas that could have been improved during our stay, the hotel itself felt clean, friendly and well run, with a location that immediately stood out as one of its biggest strengths. Since our visit, the property has transitioned into THB Lanzarote Beach under new ownership, with reports and updated imagery suggesting that several areas, particularly the rooms, have since been refurbished.

Looking back now, that refurbishment feels less like a complete reinvention and more like the hotel building on a very solid foundation that was already there.

First Impressions & Overall Atmosphere

One of the biggest surprises after arriving was how much more modern and welcoming the hotel felt compared to some of the reviews we’d read beforehand.

No, it didn’t feel ultra-luxury or freshly built, but it certainly didn’t feel neglected either. The communal areas were clean, staff were consistently friendly and the hotel had a relaxed atmosphere that suited Costa Teguise particularly well.

That balance is important because this isn’t trying to compete with five-star luxury resorts. Instead, it felt like a solid family-focused four-star hotel in a genuinely excellent location.

The rebrand to THB Lanzarote Beach also makes sense when you look at the direction the hotel appeared to be moving in. Even during our stay, it already felt like parts of the property were gradually being modernised and improved.

The Family Room: Spacious but Not Perfect

We stayed in a Family Room and one of the immediate positives was the amount of space available for a family of four.

There was plenty of room for luggage, a good amount of wardrobe storage and some thoughtful little touches for children, including an easel with chalk and small cakes waiting in the room on arrival. The fridge also included cold drinks and beers, which was a nice addition after travelling.

The bathroom felt much more modern than parts of the bedroom itself, with a large shower and a generally fresh appearance. That said, there were a few areas where the room clearly needed updating at the time of our stay.

The main mattress probably needed replacing and one of the children’s beds wasn’t particularly comfortable either, although extra blankets helped slightly. The shower tray also felt slightly unstable underfoot and allowed some water onto the bathroom floor. Importantly though, the room always felt clean and practical, and for a week-long family holiday it functioned perfectly well overall.

Given the refurbishment work that has reportedly taken place since the move to THB Lanzarote Beach, it’s likely many of these cosmetic and comfort issues have now improved significantly.

Important Things to Know Before You Arrive

One thing that did catch us slightly off guard was the requirement for refundable cash deposits for both:

  • the room safe

  • and pool towels.

Cards weren’t accepted for these deposits during our stay and this wasn’t particularly well communicated beforehand.

It’s not a major issue once you know about it, but if you arrive carrying very little cash it could easily catch you out on the first day.

Late check-out was also available subject to availability. The process involved adding your name to a waiting list earlier in the holiday before confirming the day before departure.

From memory:

  • shorter extensions were around €20

  • with longer extensions costing slightly more.

Our room ultimately wasn’t available for late checkout, although the hotel did provide access to a shower room before departure, which made the final day much easier.

Location Is One of the Hotel’s Biggest Strengths

The location is probably one of the biggest reasons we’d still recommend this hotel today.

THB Lanzarote Beach sits directly beside Playa de Las Cucharas with rear access leading straight onto the promenade. That made it incredibly easy to move between the beach, restaurants and the hotel throughout the day without ever needing taxis or long walks.

The promenade itself was one of our favourite parts of Costa Teguise.

It was clean, fully pedestrianised and lined with cafés, shops and restaurants, making evening walks particularly enjoyable. You could comfortably walk around 1.5km along the coast towards the Paradisus by Meliá area and continue further towards Playa de los Charcos.

If you’re someone who enjoys getting out of the hotel and exploring the local area on foot, the location here genuinely works brilliantly.

One thing worth noting though is the wind.

Lanzarote can be windy at the best of times and sea view rooms in particular felt noticeably more exposed, even during August. Our pool-facing room felt much more sheltered overall.

The Pool Area Worked Really Well for Families

The pool area ended up being one of the stronger parts of the hotel.

It was a good size, clean and well maintained throughout the holiday, with multiple zero-entry access points that worked particularly well for children. The entertainment team also brought good energy to the area during the day with activities like water aerobics and volleyball, but importantly never felt overly intrusive.

Like many family resorts though, there was still the usual early-morning sunbed situation.

The hotel stated that unattended towels could be removed, but during our stay we never actually saw that happen. If you wanted the prime poolside spots, getting down earlier definitely helped.

Still, the overall atmosphere around the pool felt relaxed rather than chaotic, which suited the hotel quite well.

The Gym: Usable but Basic

If you enjoy training while away, the gym was perfectly usable but definitely not a premium fitness facility.

Equipment included:

  • a treadmill

  • rowing machine

  • spin bikes

  • free weights

  • and open floor space for stretching or bodyweight exercises.

The biggest issue was the lack of air conditioning.

Because the gym sat downstairs off an open corridor, heat built up quickly and the room became quite uncomfortable during warmer parts of the day. The water station was also often empty and one of the spin bikes had a damaged seat during our stay.

Still, for basic holiday workouts it did the job well enough.

Just don’t expect a modern luxury hotel gym experience.

Food & Drink Was Better Than Expected

Food quality was probably one of the areas we’d been most unsure about before travelling because some reviews online were particularly critical of the buffet restaurant.

In reality, while the buffet area downstairs did lack natural light slightly, it never felt unpleasant or overly dark like some reviews suggested.

More importantly, the food itself was comfortably above average for a four-star all-inclusive.

Breakfast offered plenty of variety including:

  • cooked breakfast items

  • fresh omelettes

  • cold meats

  • pastries

  • cereals

  • fruit

  • and breads.

Lunches worked especially well for families, with fresh salads, rotating hot dishes and reliable children’s options like nuggets, pizza and chips alongside more traditional Spanish dishes.

Dinner was where the variety improved most, thanks to themed evenings that helped stop the buffet becoming repetitive over the course of the week.

The chocolate fountain night was particularly popular with the children.

What we liked most overall though was that the buffet felt cohesive. Rather than random trays of unrelated food, it was usually possible to put together proper balanced meals each evening.

The allergen labelling could definitely have been clearer at times, although chefs were helpful whenever assistance was needed.

The A La Carte Restaurant Was Worth Booking

The Mylos à la carte restaurant offered Mediterranean and Mexican-themed evenings depending on the night and reservations were made through reception.

All-inclusive guests received:

  • two à la carte meals per seven-night stay

which is actually more generous than many similar resorts.

The restaurant itself provided a nice change of pace from the buffet, with quicker table service and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere overall.

The food quality was good and the staff were friendly throughout, although the restaurant could occasionally feel a little quiet if it wasn’t particularly busy. Service also moved fairly quickly, which at times made the experience feel slightly rushed between courses. Even so, it was absolutely worth booking during the stay.

Entertainment Was Probably the Weakest Area

If evening entertainment is an important part of your holiday, this is probably the area where expectations need managing slightly.

In our opinion, the entertainment programme felt below average compared to many similar all-inclusive resorts, particularly outside peak season.

That didn’t impact us massively because entertainment isn’t usually a major factor in how we choose holidays, but for families specifically looking for strong evening shows and activities, it’s probably worth bearing in mind before booking.

The Brandy Well Irish Pub also felt like one of the older parts of the hotel that would benefit from refurbishment. It had a slightly dated atmosphere during our stay, although drinks could easily be taken into the brighter lobby areas or outside seating instead.

Pueblo Marinero Is Well Worth Visiting

One of the advantages of staying in Costa Teguise rather than being isolated inside a resort is having good restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Around five minutes away is Pueblo Marinero, a lovely square filled with restaurants, bars and shops that became a really nice place to visit in the evenings.

We particularly liked Chispas Bar for Spanish wines, although there were plenty of other options nearby as well.

If you’re staying half board rather than all-inclusive, you’d have no shortage of places to eat locally.

Who Is THB Lanzarote Beach Best Suited For?

THB Lanzarote Beach works best for:

  • families wanting direct beach access

  • travellers who value location

  • guests wanting a solid four-star all-inclusive

  • and people who enjoy walking access to bars and restaurants.

It’s probably less suited for:

  • travellers expecting luxury-level finishes

  • guests heavily focused on entertainment

  • or anyone particularly sensitive to windy beachfront locations.

Final Thoughts: Is THB Lanzarote Beach Worth Booking?

Looking back, this holiday ended up being a much more positive surprise than we expected.

The hotel certainly wasn’t perfect during our stay and there were clear areas that needed improvement at the time, particularly some room furnishings and parts of the entertainment offering.

But the things that mattered most consistently worked well:

  • the location

  • the friendliness of the staff

  • the cleanliness

  • the pool area

  • and the overall relaxed atmosphere.

Now that the hotel has transitioned into THB Lanzarote Beach with refurbishment work reportedly completed in several areas, it feels like the property has the potential to offer even stronger value than when we originally stayed.

For families wanting a well-located beachfront hotel in Costa Teguise with a relaxed atmosphere and good overall value, this is definitely one worth considering.

Since our stay in August 2023, the hotel has transitioned from Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach to THB Lanzarote Beach under new ownership.

As part of that transition, sections of the hotel — particularly the rooms — have undergone refurbishment. Recent imagery and guest reports suggest that rooms have been modernised with updated décor and finishes, addressing some of the cosmetic concerns raised in older reviews.

When we stayed, the hotel already felt clean and well run, but there were areas — such as mattresses and parts of the exterior — that could have benefitted from updating. If those upgrades have now been completed, it strengthens the overall value proposition of the hotel considerably.

It’s always worth checking the most recent guest photos before booking, but based on the direction of improvements under the THB brand, this looks like a positive evolution rather than just a simple name change.

If you’ve stayed at THB Lanzarote Beach since the refurb, we’d love to hear how it compares.
