Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach (Now THB Lanzarote Beach) – Family Review
Costa Teguise, Lanzarote | 4-Star | All Inclusive & Half Board
The Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach, now rebranded as THB Lanzarote Beach, is a 4-star beachfront hotel in Costa Teguise.
We booked this as a last-minute holiday in August 2023 and, despite reading some mixed reviews beforehand, we were genuinely pleasantly surprised.
If you’re considering this hotel for a family holiday in Lanzarote, here’s our honest, detailed experience — including what worked well, what needs improving, and whether we’d return.
Hotel & Pool at night
First Impressions & Overall Feel
Before travelling, we’d seen some fairly negative reviews:
Buffet described as “basement-like”
Exterior paint flaking
Rooms in poor condition
In reality? That wasn’t our experience.
The hotel felt modern, clean and well run. Yes, there are areas that could benefit from improvement (which I’ll cover properly below), but it didn’t feel tired or neglected. Staff across the hotel were consistently friendly and helpful, which always elevates the overall experience.
Since our stay, the hotel has transitioned to THB Lanzarote Beach, and rooms in particular have reportedly been refurbished — which should resolve some of the older cosmetic complaints.
Rooms – Be Live Family Room
We stayed in a Family Room, and space was one of the big positives.
What we liked:
Generous layout for a family of four
Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers
Kids’ extras (easel with chalk, small cakes on arrival)
Cold drinks and beers in the fridge
Modern-looking bathroom with large shower
What could be improved:
Shower base felt slightly bouncy and allowed some water onto the floor
Main mattress needed replacing
One of the children’s beds was uncomfortable (extra blankets helped)
The room itself was practical and worked well for a week away, but the mattresses were the one real comfort issue.
Important: Cash Deposits
Both the room safe and pool towels required a refundable cash deposit.
Cards were not accepted for this.
This wasn’t clearly communicated before arrival.
If you’re arriving with minimal cash, this could catch you out — so plan ahead.
Late Check-Out – What to Expect
You can request late check-out via reception:
Put your name on the list earlier in your stay.
Return the day before departure to confirm availability.
Pay the fee if available.
From memory:
Half day: approx. €20
Later departure: slightly more
Our room wasn’t available, but the hotel did provide access to a shower room, which was helpful.
Playa de Las Cucharas
Location – Costa Teguise & Beach Access
One of the hotel’s biggest strengths is its location. Direct access via rear steps takes you onto the promenade and Playa de Las Cucharas, one of Costa Teguise’s main beaches.
The promenade is:
Clean
Fully pedestrianised
Split for walkers, runners and scooters
Lined with cafés, shops and bars
You can walk around 1.5km along the coast toward the Paradisus by Meliá and continue around to Playa de los Charcos.
Wind Warning
If you’re sensitive to wind, be careful when selecting your room location.
Sea view rooms can be very exposed — even in August it was noticeably windy on that side of the hotel. Our pool-facing room was much more sheltered.
Pool Area
Good Size, multiple zero entry points, clean.
Entertainment team were great organising volleyball and water aerobics - full of fun. If you don’t want to get wet or hit with the ball - don’t get a front row sun bed.
Pool Area
The pool area was one of the stronger parts of the hotel.
Positives:
Good size
Multiple zero-entry access points
Clean and well maintained
Active entertainment team (water aerobics, volleyball)
The team brought good energy without being intrusive.
Sunbed Reality
Yes — it’s the usual early-morning towel situation. The hotel states they will remove unattended towels, but we didn’t see that happen.
If you’re not down early, you may struggle for prime spots.
The Gym – Functional But Hot
If you like to train on holiday (like we do), here’s what to expect.
Equipment included:
1 treadmill
1 step machine
2 spin bikes
1 rowing machine
Free weights
Mats and open floor space
It’s more of a functional gym space than a full fitness centre.
The gym
Prepare for the heat.
Downsides:
No air conditioning
Located downstairs off an open corridor
Heat builds up quickly
Water station often empty
One spin bike had a broken seat
Bring a large water bottle. It’s usable and does the job, but don’t expect a premium gym experience.
Restaurants & Bars
The hotel has:
3 Bars (Lobby, Pool, Irish Pub)
1 Buffet Restaurant (Timanfaya)
1 A La Carte (Mylos – Mediterranean/Mexican rotation)
Timanfaya Buffet Restaurant
This is downstairs and does lack natural light — but it’s not dark or oppressive. Decor is bright and staff were excellent.
Areas for Improvement:
Allergen labelling could be clearer
Chef assistance available when requested
Breakfast
Full English options (sausages, bacon, beans)
Fresh omelettes
Churros (on rotation)
Cold meats & cheeses
Cereals, yoghurts, breads
Fresh fruit
Lunch
Fresh salads (rotating options)
Kids’ station (nuggets, chips, pizza)
Spanish-style desserts
Good fruit selection
Dinner
Themed nights added variety and kept it from feeling repetitive.
Highlights included:
Chocolate fountain night (big hit with the kids)
Varied rice dishes and casseroles
Solid salad options
It won’t blow you away, but it was comfortably above average for a 4-star all-inclusive. You could build a cohesive plate rather than random “buffet bits”.
Mylos A La Carte
Reservation required via reception.
All-Inclusive guests received:
2 a la carte dinners per 7-night stay (which is generous compared to many hotels)
Dress code slightly more formal. We tried both themed evenings (Mediterranean and Mexican/Spanish).
Pros:
Nice change from buffet
Friendly service
Food served quickly
Good quality
Cons:
Could feel slightly quiet if not busy
Turnaround felt a little rushed
Still — worth booking.
Mylos - A la Carte restaurant.
Fish with squid ink pasta
Bars
Pool Bar
Officially opens at 10am, but coffee machines available earlier.
Standard all-inclusive offering.
Brandy Well Irish Pub
This was the weakest area.
Slight smell issue
Dated interior
Needs refurbishment
However, drinks can be taken into the brighter lobby area or outside seating, which improves the experience.
Karaoke takes place here a couple of nights per week (around 9–10pm).
Entertainment
If hotel entertainment is important to you, manage expectations.
In our opinion:
Standard was below average
Could be significantly improved
Especially noticeable outside peak season
We’re not big entertainment-focused travellers, but for families who are, this is one of the weaker areas of the hotel.
Nearby: Pueblo Marinero Square
Within a 5-minute walk, you’ll find Pueblo Marinero — a lovely square with:
Bars
Restaurants
Shops
We liked Chispas Bar for Spanish wines. If you’re half board, you won’t struggle for dining options locally. Peak summer gets busy — reservations recommended.
Pueblo Marinero Square - Nearby area with bars and restaurants - within 5 minute walk of the hotel.
Who Is This Hotel Best For?
✔ Families wanting beachfront access
✔ Those happy with a solid but not luxury all-inclusive
✔ People who value location
✔ Guests who like walking access to local restaurants
Less suited for:
✖ Entertainment-focused holidays
✖ Those expecting 5-star luxury finishes
✖ Guests sensitive to wind in sea view rooms
Final Thoughts – Is Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach Worth It?
For a last-minute booking, where the reviews were slightly negative, this was a good surprise.
Strengths:
Location
Friendly staff
Spacious rooms
Good salad and fruit selection
A la carte inclusion value
Needs Improvement:
Entertainment
Pub refurbishment
Mattress upgrades (at time of stay)
NOTE:
Since our stay in August 2023, the hotel has transitioned from Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach to THB Lanzarote Beach under new ownership.
As part of that transition, sections of the hotel — particularly the rooms — have undergone refurbishment. Recent imagery and guest reports suggest that rooms have been modernised with updated décor and finishes, addressing some of the cosmetic concerns raised in older reviews.
When we stayed, the hotel already felt clean and well run, but there were areas — such as mattresses and parts of the exterior — that could have benefitted from updating. If those upgrades have now been completed, it strengthens the overall value proposition of the hotel considerably.
It’s always worth checking the most recent guest photos before booking, but based on the direction of improvements under the THB brand, this looks like a positive evolution rather than just a simple name change.
If you’ve stayed at THB Lanzarote Beach since the refurb, we’d love to hear how it compares.
