SO/ Paris Hotel Review: Is This the Most Stylish 5-Star Stay in Paris?
Paris is expensive — there’s really no way around that.
And when you’re only visiting for one night, spending five-star hotel money can feel difficult to justify, especially when most of the trip is going to be spent out exploring the city rather than sitting inside the hotel itself. That was exactly the debate we had before booking SO/ Paris.
This wasn’t a slow luxury escape with spa days and long afternoons around the hotel. It was a fast-paced one-night Paris trip for me and my daughter, flying out early on Saturday morning and returning late Sunday night, trying to fit as much of the city into a short amount of time as possible.
Before arriving, the big question wasn’t whether SO/ Paris was luxurious enough. From everything we’d seen online, it clearly would be. The real question was whether paying more for a five-star hotel would genuinely improve this type of trip in a meaningful way. When you know you’ll spend most of the day walking around Paris, does the extra comfort, location and atmosphere actually add enough value to justify the cost?
After staying there, I think the answer depends entirely on the type of Paris trip you’re trying to have.

Why We Chose SO/ Paris
We booked SO/ Paris mainly because it seemed to offer the right balance for the type of trip we were taking. Location was a huge part of that, but so was the idea of coming back somewhere genuinely comfortable and relaxing after long days exploring the city. This was never going to be a hotel-focused trip where we spent hours using facilities or sitting around a spa.
From the start, we knew most of our time would be spent walking around Paris, using the Metro and trying to see as much as possible in a short space of time. Because of that, the priorities became very different.
Instead of focusing on things like endless hotel facilities or finding the cheapest possible option further outside the city centre, we cared more about where the hotel was located, how well we’d sleep and whether the stay itself would still feel memorable despite only being there for one night. For this particular itinerary, that approach genuinely worked.
First Impressions: Surprisingly Minimalist Outside
One of the things that surprised us most about SO/ Paris was how understated it looks from the outside.
Walking up to it for the first time, it doesn’t immediately scream traditional five-star luxury. The exterior is minimalist and fairly subtle, and if you passed by quickly you probably wouldn’t instantly realise there was a luxury hotel inside. That changed completely the moment we walked through the doors.
Inside, the atmosphere immediately felt stylish and carefully designed without crossing into anything overly formal or intimidating. The colours, lighting and interiors all felt very deliberate, creating a modern luxury feel that was much more contemporary than classic Parisian elegance.
The curved fluted pillars, mirrors and bold colour tones gave the hotel a very distinct personality, while even the staff uniforms matched the overall aesthetic of the space. It all felt modern, trendy and very visually driven, but still warm enough that we never felt uncomfortable there as a family.
In many ways, it felt like a more modern interpretation of luxury compared to somewhere more traditionally elegant like Sofitel.
The arrival experience also helped set the tone straight away. Check-in was smooth and welcoming, we were offered a welcome drink almost immediately and the staff struck a really nice balance between professional and approachable throughout. My daughter especially loved the little details, from the fancy glass presentation of the welcome drink to the overall feeling that the hotel experience itself felt special without ever becoming pretentious.

The Location Worked Brilliantly for a Short Paris Trip
For a short one-night Paris itinerary, the location worked extremely well for us.
The hotel sits just outside Le Marais in an area that felt calm, stylish and surprisingly relaxed considering how central it actually is. It never felt overwhelmingly tourist-heavy, especially in the evenings, but at the same time we were still within easy reach of many of the places we wanted to visit.
Notre-Dame was roughly a 10-minute walk away, the Louvre was around 10 to 15 minutes depending on pace, and nearby Metro connections made getting around the city straightforward when we needed them.
For this type of fast-paced trip, that convenience became a much bigger advantage than we initially expected.
When you only have a day and a half in Paris, staying somewhere further outside the centre might save money initially, but it also adds more travel time, more walking and more overall tiredness to an already busy itinerary. In many ways, the location itself became part of what we were paying for.
Another thing we liked was that there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, which helped balance the cost of the stay slightly. Rather than feeling forced to eat inside the hotel itself, we found some excellent smaller restaurants nearby that felt far more authentic and fitted the trip much better.
The Room: Chic, Comfortable and Surprisingly Practical
The room itself perfectly matched the overall feel of the hotel.
Everything felt stylish and thoughtfully designed without becoming impractical.
The lighting used warm orange-red tones mixed with cooler blues, giving the room a calm but modern atmosphere. It felt premium immediately, but not in a flashy way.
There were also some lovely touches waiting for us:
Luxury chocolates
Soft drinks included in the minibar
Nespresso machine
Smiley-face Nutella biscuits alongside a small children’s welcome pack for my daughter.
That balance between luxury and warmth made a big difference.
The bathroom setup also worked really well practically too. The toilet and bathroom areas were separated, which makes getting ready much easier when travelling as a family. And oddly enough, one of my favourite details was actually the shower.
The shower controls were positioned properly so you didn’t get blasted with freezing water turning it on, and the shower seal actually stopped water flooding the bathroom floor — something surprisingly few luxury hotels seem to manage properly.
It sounds like a tiny detail, but those little practical touches are often what separate genuinely good hotels from expensive hotels that simply look nice online.

The Sleep Quality Was the Biggest Luxury of All
This was the point where the hotel really started to justify itself.
After spending all day walking around Paris, coming back to that room felt genuinely restorative. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, with soft bedding and pillows that immediately felt premium the moment you got into it. Honestly, it was some of the best sleep we’ve had on a city break — even better than Disney Cruise Line.
The room itself also played a big part in that. Being on the seventh floor with a courtyard-facing view meant it was incredibly quiet throughout the night. We didn’t hear traffic outside, noise from other guests or the usual city sounds you often expect in a central hotel. That deep, uninterrupted sleep completely changed how we felt the following morning.
For this type of fast-paced short break, that recovery aspect ended up being more valuable to us than having extra facilities we realistically wouldn’t have had time to use.
The Rooftop Bar Was a Highlight (With One Slight Disappointment)
One of the biggest reasons we booked SO/ Paris was the promise of the rooftop atmosphere and views across the city, and visually it absolutely lived up to expectations.
The rooftop bar on the 15th floor felt stylish and premium without becoming overly formal or uncomfortable. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows created incredible views across Paris, including a view towards the Eiffel Tower from one side of the bar, especially as the sun started setting.
What stood out just as much as the view though was the atmosphere itself. It felt modern, relaxed and noticeably more grown-up than family-focused, but never in a way that made us feel out of place. There was a mix of couples and groups enjoying drinks, but the overall environment still felt calm and respectful rather than loud or intimidating.
The staff also handled things really well. When we arrived, the host specifically seated us at one of the best available tables so my daughter could enjoy the view properly, which was a genuinely thoughtful touch and immediately made the experience feel welcoming.
The only real disappointment came when we realised access to the rooftop terrace above, 16th Floor, was restricted unless you were dining in the restaurant or having breakfast there.
Commercially, I completely understand why the hotel does that, especially given how popular the views clearly are. But at the same time, when you’re staying as a hotel guest and paying luxury hotel prices, it did feel slightly disappointing not being able to access the outdoor terrace itself without booking a meal. It wasn’t something that was made known from the website or booking page.

What We Didn’t Use (And Why That Matters)
One thing that’s probably important to say honestly is that we didn’t actually use many of the hotel facilities during our stay.
We didn’t use the spa or wellness area, we didn’t eat in the rooftop restaurant and we also skipped breakfast the following morning. But realistically, that reflected the type of trip this actually was.
This wasn’t a slow luxury getaway built around spending time inside the hotel. The entire itinerary was focused on maximising our time in Paris, and on a trip this short, getting more sleep and arriving at Notre-Dame early the next morning felt far more valuable than sitting down for a long hotel breakfast.
The rooftop restaurant menu also looked excellent, but again it simply didn’t fit the rhythm of the trip we were trying to have. If we’d stayed for another night or two, I probably would have used far more of the facilities and experienced the hotel differently. But for this particular one-night stay, the real value came from the things we actually did use — the location, the atmosphere, the comfort of the room and the quality of sleep after long days exploring Paris.
Is SO/ Paris Worth It?
For our trip, yes — it felt worth it. Not because of a five-star badge or simply having a rooftop bar, but because the hotel genuinely improved the overall experience of the trip. After long days exploring Paris, what mattered most was returning somewhere calm, comfortable and quiet where we could properly switch off and recharge for the next day.
The location made sightseeing far easier, the room felt like a genuine treat at the end of a busy day, and the sleep quality was honestly some of the best we’ve had on a city break. That doesn’t mean it will be the right choice for everyone.
If your priority is simply having a base to sleep in, or your budget is tighter, you’ll probably find better value staying slightly further out in areas with strong transport links like around Gare du Nord or Montparnasse.
Likewise, if you’re planning a slower luxury-focused Paris stay where you’ll spend lots of time using the hotel facilities, there may be other five-star hotels that suit that type of trip better - not suggesting this hotel can’t meet those needs but you might have other options.
For a short, fast-moving Paris city break with lots of walking, sightseeing and early starts, SO/ Paris struck a really smart balance between luxury, comfort and location.
Would We Stay Again?
Yes — absolutely but not necessarily for every Paris trip, because different itineraries and neighbourhoods will suit different types of travellers. But for this kind of short, fast-paced city break, SO/ Paris fitted the trip brilliantly.
The location made exploring easy without constantly relying on transport. After long days walking across Paris, coming back to a calm, stylish room genuinely mattered more than we expected. The atmosphere felt special without becoming intimidating, the staff were excellent throughout the stay, and the sleep quality was exceptional.
It was expensive, but it never felt expensive purely for the sake of luxury. For this trip, the comfort, quietness and location added real value to the overall experience.
